I Have A Dream by Sierra Moore.

I recently informed you guys that I would be posting my poem from poetry slam. Unfortunately I could not have it recorded in class the day it happened, so I recorded it myself at home. I received great feedback from my peers especially my teacher who graded it 105%. So I would like to share it with you. Below it I have the words to my poem, if by chance you would like to read it.

Martin Luther King HAD a dream, that the little black boys and the little black girls could join hands with the little white boys and white girls.
He HAD a dream that we could break FREE the chains of inequality and discrimination. That we could FINALLY be EQUAL to the white man.
 He had a dream.
What we fail to realize is that each night when we go to sleep we have a dream. The next day we wake up and face the reality that it was JUST a dream.
He had a dream.
Today I see that his dream was only JUST a dream.  Now I HAVE a dream.
We’ve broken free the chains of inequality just to be handcuffed to our OWN discrimination.
Team Light Skin vs. Team Dark Skin, but in reality we are all on the same team.
I HAVE a dream that we will wake up and realize that the white man is not the problem anymore.
We walk these streets like we are somebody, with no aspiration to BE somebody. Killing each other in the streets, locked up at 13 pregnant at 14.
I HAVE a dream FOR the little black boys and the little black girls who will grow up not knowing their father.
Inhaling the smoke from their mothers lips.
Listening to her cry into her tear stained pillow at night through the thin apartment walls.
I HAVE a dream that we will stop blaming EVERYONE else for our problems, and realize that we ARE the problem.
Throwing our lives away to drugs and alcohol, devoting our trust to a red or blue flag.
WE are the problem.
but I HAVE A DREAM that we will use our words that are MUCH stronger than our fists.
I have a dream that we will STOP living our life according to a lyric from lil wayne in 2004 (2000 and 4). That we will realize that success is not only made on a court or with a microphone. But also with a paper and pencil.
I HAVE a dream that we will stop drowning in the false connections of social media and stop using it as a distraction from the world crumbling  beneath our very own feet.
That we will stop exploiting the privacy of our brothers and sisters on the internet, and put the phone down to experience the real world going on around us as we’re scrolling through our news feed.
And yes, Martin Luther King HAD a dream that the little black boys and little black girls could join hands with the little white boys and little white girls.
But now I HAVE a dream that the little black boys and little black girls could join hands TOGETHER and be the change that this world needs.
