I was told today that I acted like a white girl. I didn't put much thought into it because I hear statements like this often. Then I started thinking; "well what does that even mean?". Society has created these images of men and women/young boys and girls, based off of their nationality. Some people call this stereotyping, I just call it stupid. Since when did the color of my skin determine the way I was supposed to act? And since when did the things I do play such an important role in society?
I want you to think about these questions; what does a white girl act like? what does a black girl act like?, and most importantly why does it matter? If you were honestly able to answer any of these questions, then that's great, good for you. But if you're like me and you can't seem to justify an answer to any of these questions, then you understand that they shouldn't even have an answer.
To all of the people out there who actually believe that because you look a certain way you automatically have to act a certain way, I feel sorry for you. The color of your skin does not define who you are. Aspire to be who YOU are, not who society wants you to be.
